Day 76 – Thankful For The Word

Prayer of thankfulness for Scripture

Scripture – 1 Thessalonians 2.13-16

While living in Dallas in the early 1990’s, I was attempting to find someone’s home and do it from memory. It was painful trying to recall the verbal directions that I was given. I had the address, accompanied by the 17 turns and 22 landmarks I needed to spot, none of which I wrote down. Trying to find a home in the dark in an unfamiliar city can be frustrating. Needless to say, this was the day before plentiful cell phones armed with GPS systems.

Finally spotting a gas station, I stopped for directions. Once the attendant and I overcame the barrier of not speaking the same language, I was to able to jot a few notes and sketch a map of the area. I was relieved walking out of there holding that precious piece of paper that gave me the route I needed to take. Words make a difference to our lives. Words guide, comfort, teach, challenge and sooth us. I trust you are thankful for the words, whether spoken or written, that appear in your life,

The Apostle Paul was thankful for the Word of God and how the church in Thessalonica was allowing those Words to transform their lives. Paul was thankful for the Word of God in his own life, he was thankful for the Word of God moving in the life of the church and my guess is that the people of that church were thankful and amazed as their changed lives….all because they believed and lived out the Word of God.

Today, let’s thank God for those precious 66 books. Tell the Lord you appreciate this gift in your life.

Themes to pray today

  • Praise God for how He reveals Himself to you in His Word
  • Pray for an ever-deepening love of God’s Word
  • Ask the Holy Spirit to excite you with renewed love and appreciation for each time you read the Bible

A prayer for us all

Thank you, Lord, for the blessings you have bestowed on my life. You have provided me with more than I could ever have imagined. You have surrounded me with people who always look out for me. You Lord have given me Your written word to reveal hope and salvation, I thank You for this treasure. I pray that I will not stray from it and cherish it more each day.

Amen
