Week’s Theme – Praying for Hope Fellowship to Love The Bible
Today – Prayer to be hungry for the Word
Scripture – John 8:31-32
William Wallace, as portrayed by Mel Gibson in Braveheart, shouted it throughout the movie. Nelson Mandela battled for it. Abraham Lincoln , with the stroke of a pen, ushered in this experience for millions. Freedom!
Freedom has so many benefits that are too numerous to list. Sadly, many in this world can’t experience freedom from the oppression and circumstances that they are born into or caught in. But even in the free parts of the world there is great bondage and most people can’t enjoy freedom and yet the avenue to freedom is readily available to them. The Word of God.
The Bible has never, in world history, been more accessible, thanks to the internet. Electronic copies as well as hard copies are constantly floating around and tragically, most ignore it. What’s even more troubling, is that many in churches today fail to crack open their Bible and read it. And yet, in those we words we read today of John 8:31-32, we see that His Word reveals truth and that truth will set you free.
Freedom from the bondage of sin. Freedom from the the penalty of sin. Freedom from fear. Freedom from not knowing what our life is about. Freedom to know and experience the God who loved us so much that He sent His only begotten Son. Tell me again, why don’t you take advantage of that freedom? Let’s pray for a hunger for the Word of God, to know Truth and experience a greater awareness of freedom.
Themes to pray over
- Pray to be so thirsty for Truth that you can’t resist reading the Bible
- Pray that each person of Hope Fellowship is driven to the Word of God
